Texting While Driving Leads to Death

It’s no secret that texting while driving is dangerous, and now the practice has claimed another life, this time in Lehigh County.

Patricia Deady, aged 56, died while walking near Seventh and Linden Streets in Allentown last November. The vehicle that struck her was driven by 21 year old Seneca Yvonne Harley. Harley will be charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, two counts of reckless endangerment, and four traffic summary violations.

According to the police report, Harley was traveling south on Seventh Street when she ran a red light at the intersection of Linden Street and collided with a vehicle that was headed west on Linden. Harley’s vehicle spun into the intersection and struck Deady, a pedestrian headed east in the crosswalk.

Both Deady and the driver of the vehicle Harley struck were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, where Deady died.

The police report claims Harley was texting on her cellphone when the crash occurred.

Texting Drivers Continue to Cause Accidents

Every day distracted drivers, especially those using their cell phones to read or type text messages, are involved in accidents. Despite the warnings from law enforcement and safety officials, people continue to engage in other activities while driving. And without their focus 100 percent on the road, they are causing accidents and failing to avoid accident that are avoidable.

Tragically, many of these incidents result in serious injuries and death.

Ensuring Victims of Distracted Drivers Get What They Deserve

We have worked with several car accident victims after they were involved in accidents caused by distracted drivers. All too often the person at fault escapes the incident uninjured and is not held accountable for his or her actions. Victims are left with their lives in disarray and unable to recover the compensation they deserve.

Our goal is to ensure that all victims of distracted drivers are treated fairly and receive compensation for their injuries.

It’s important following a vehicle crash that you retain the service of an experienced personal injury attorney. Our firm works with law enforcement and other officials to ensure there is a proper investigation of the accident and that we have all of the facts pertaining to the cause of a crash.

Additionally, we work hard to protect clients from the tricks insurance companies use to take advantage of accident victims. We know how intimidating it can be to receive a call from an insurance company and we also understand it can be tempting to accept the first offer for settlement you receive. We want to make sure you understand your rights and know what to expect in terms of compensation, so you receive what you deserve.

All too often, we see defendants and their legal teams attempting to shift the focus and attack our clients personally in an effort to mitigate the amount of compensation a jury might award. Their goal is to get the jury to dislike you so they’ll give you less money.

This is unfair and shouldn’t be something you need to deal with during one of the most difficult times in your life. We take pride in vigorously fighting back to protect our clients from these tactics and ensure they receive the compensation they deserve.
