Pennsylvania Turnpike Crash Kills Pedestrian

Devin Glace (30) was killed recently when he was involved in a multi-track pileup on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, Glace was hit by two tractor-trailers and a box truck when he was walking in the right lane of the westbound turnpike. The crash occurred in New Sewickley Township in Beaver County.

The tractor-trailer driver was unable to stop and hit Glace head-on. That truck landed in the right driving lane and was then hit by two more truck drivers.

Glace was killed immediately.

Police report that Glace parked his vehicle in a pull-off area and walked out into the road without his phone or wallet. There is no indication as to why he walked into oncoming traffic. He’d left his wallet and phone behind in his vehicle, which he left running.

The first two trucks involved pulled over and called 911. The third driver left the scene. Police are searching for this driver. They describe the vehicle as a green Peterbilt long-wood trailer that had grain on top.

The incident occurred just before 3 am and closed the turnpike for nearly four hours from Cranberry to New Castle.

Police said they do not anticipate the filing of any charges.

Tractor-Trailer Accidents are Deadly

Involvement in a collision with a tractor-trailer is one of the most dangerous risks on the road.

The risk of dying in an accident involving a tractor-trailer is extremely high for pedestrians.

These trucks can be longer than 50 feet in length and weigh up to 80,000 pounds. There is no way someone could survive being hit by this type of vehicle.

According to law enforcement, the drivers of the tractor-trailers were not at fault. However, this isn’t always the case. Large semi-trucks are often involved in catastrophic accidents that occur because the truck drivers are overworked, distracted, or for other negligent reasons.

Many of these accidents result in debilitating permanent effects. If you or a loved one has been involved in a tractor-trailer accident, you might have a right to financial compensation for accident-related injuries or the death of a loved one.
