One Person Fatality and Several Injured in Fiery Crash in West Goshen Township

Several people were injured and one area political figure lost his life in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Route 202 in West Goshen Township, Chester County recently.

The crash shut down the highway going both ways for several hours.

The nine vehicle accident occurred when a tractor trailer slammed into a vehicle, flipped, and burst into flames. The driver of the vehicle impacted, Adam Harrison Swope, 38, was killed at the scene.

Swope, who served as chair of the Willistown/Malvern Democrats, as well as executive assistant and campaign manager for Chester County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone, was known for his “savvy strategy”. He organized a variety of campaign events throughout the area and was described by Cozzone as “bright and kind and funny” and “an eternal optimist” who loved his family and pets, football, games, and politics.

Vehicle Crashes Reportedly Common along this Stretch of Road

According to witnesses, the scene of the crash was chaotic as people ran from the area and smoke poured from the vehicles involved.

Investigators are still examining the details of the crash and have called for anyone who witnessed the event, or who has video or photographs of the scene, to contact them directly via telephone or email.

According to those living nearby the scene, it is not the first deadly accident to occur on this stretch of Route 202. Some believe the speed limit should be reduced.
