An elderly man was killed Thursday morning

HUGHESVILLE — An elderly man was killed Thursday morning when his SUV was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer milk tanker truck as he was turning onto Clarkstown Road from Route 118, according to state police and Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr.

Harold Lowe, 77, was pronounced dead at the scene following the violent 9:35 a.m. collision that resulted in the tanker truck overturning and landing on front left side of Lowe’s vehicle, police said.

Both Lowe and Paul Corron, 24, the truck driver, were traveling west on Route 118 when the collision occurred, police said. Investigators provided no address for either driver.

Corron was briefly trapped in the rig and then taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport to be treated for his injuries.

Trooper Troy Hansen, the lead investigator, said “Lowe decreased his speed as he approached Clarkstown Road. Corron applied his brakes and traveled across the double yellow centerline. The front right side of the truck struck the rear left side of the SUV. The truck continued west and struck a bridge rail on the south side of Route 118 before traveling back across both lanes and rolling over on its left side.”
