Rollover crash on Route 8 kills Knoch High School student

On Wednesday 1st February, a 16-year-old boy died after an SUV he was travelling in lost control, flipped several occasions and landed on a building’s roof. The deceased was identified as Cameron Ashton, a student of Knoch high school. Apart from taking Ashton’s life, the crash injured the driver of the aforementioned SUV. The driver is a 16-year-old student of the same school that Cameron Ashton attended. The latest reports show that the driver is expected to recover soon.

The aforementioned accident took place on McBride Hill. The hill is located right next to the McBride Station bar. According to the police, the former Knoch high school student was pronounced dead immediately after being taken out from the SUV. Media reports reveal that the SUV Ashton was present in strayed off Penn Township’s Route 8 and hit the McBride Station Bar and Grill building. Student and faculty at Knoch high school had great words to say about Ashton. According to one senior of Ashton, the latter was a great kid and could make anybody laugh. Another senior revealed that Ashton always carried a smile on his face.

The school released a statement following the tradgedy:

The student was loved and respected by teachers and students, and this loss will have a great impact on the school community; therefore, the school is providing counseling services to any high school or middle school student who may need comfort and support during this sorrowful time.”

The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the driver of the SUV and Ashton were making the trip home from Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School. Initial reports stated that the accident occurred due to the driver losing control but investigators are still looking for the ‘real’ reason of the fatal crash.

According to Serena Skelley, the owner of McBride Station Bar and Grill, the crash occurred due to a washed out spot near the bar and the drainage along Route 8. As reported by wtae, Skelley taking about the washed out spot near her bar said, “This keeps catching everybody’s wheels and bringing them right into my building.” She further added, “I saw a girl get hurt really bad last year, and I saw a boy die this year.”

The love and affection friends and schoolmates had for Ashton can be gauged by the fact that they are looking to build something in the memory of Ashton near the crash site. They’ve already started raising money for it. Serena Skelley says that she will allow and support any such initiative by the friends and schoolmates of Ashton.
