Police reported a garbage truck hit an RV on Interstate 84 recently near Mt. Cobb. The RV was stationary on the shoulder of the road on the westbound side. Floyd Welborn (82) of North Carolina was killed in the crash. Three other people, including the driver of the garbage truck, were all taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The crash resulted in the closure of the highway for approximately nine hours.
Risks are High When Stopped on the Side of the Road
Disabled and stopped vehicles on the nation’s roadways pose a risk to everyone involved. This is why safety standards have been implemented to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries in these situations. If you or a loved one was injured in an accident involving a stopped vehicle on the side of the road, you might be entitled to insurance benefits.
If an event such as this occurs, it’s important to preserve evidence and contact an attorney as soon as possible. Many factors influence accidents like this, including the size and condition of the roadway, the speed at which the offending vehicle was traveling, and the weather conditions at the time of the crash. Reconstruction and attorneys often invest a great deal of time in analyzing the accident and determining the contributing factors involved. This is one of the reasons it is so important to work with an experienced accident attorney.
Accident Victims Might Be Entitled to Benefits
Benefits could be available to help with short- and long-term medical benefits, or in worst-case scenarios, funeral costs. Unfortunately, insurance companies aren’t always upfront about the value of your claim or how much you are entitled to receive. Many do their best to convince you your claim is worth much less than it is or to encourage you to settle quickly so you miss out on potential benefits.
Working with an attorney who understands these types of accidents and their subsequent claims makes the situation easier on you and ensures you receive the benefits to which you are entitled.
