21-year-old Snowboarder Dies After Accident at Camelback Ski Resort

On the night of Thursday, January 26th, a 21-year old snowboarder met an accident and died. The incident took place on the Hump or Black Diamond trail of the Camelback Mountain Resort in Tannersville. The deceased person was identified as Ryan Wasson, a resident of Albrightsville. At about 7 P.M., Wasson, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, suffered from the accident and got fatally injured. At 8:10 P.M., he was pronounced dead. This information was revealed by the office of the Monroe Country Coroner.

Monroe Country Coroner’s office further stated that after providing him with first aid, the mountain ski patrol took the victim to the base of the mountain via a toboggan. From there, he was taken to Lehigh Valley Pocono Medical Center in an ambulance. Shortly after reaching the Medical Center, Wasson succumbed to his injuries and died. Immediately after the death of Wasson, resort officials responded to assure authorities that there was no lapse in their safety standards. They were quick to point out that the victim wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. They further stated that the accident took place on one of the expert trails of Camelback that was well lit for night snowboarding and skiing.

In addition to the response by the resort officials, the spokesman of Camelback Mountain Resort, Brian Czarnecki, sent his commiserations to the family of the deceased and others affected by the death. As reported by the Morning Call, Brian Czarnecki said: “Our entire team at Camelback Resort is profoundly saddened by this tragic event. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends who are affected by this loss and we ask that you hold them all in your hearts and prayers.”

In addition to the above statement, Czarnecki said that the incident that took place was the first ski-related death at the resort in 10 years. Initial reports suggest that Wasson died after an accident at the Hump or Black Diamond trail of the resort, though no one knows for sure what caused his death.
